Absence Watch is a powerful tool which generates signals based upon changes in attendance data. These signals can be used to advise staff of actions or generate parental communication.
Approach
Several evidenced based studies have shown that communicating days missed periodically to parents can improve attendance. One study demonstrated a 4% improvement through periodic reporting for pupils who generally kept good attendance. Attend takes this a step further and shares more information beyond days missed or overall attendance percentages. It provides granular, contextual data to help personalise the impact of absence.
Use Time-Saving Rules to Automate Messages Home
Rules can be created based upon milestones, counts of codes, percentages, improvements, deteriorations or from a current absence event.
If a pupil is absent for illness, a rule could be set to send a message at the end of the day to share lessons already missed, encouraging an early return and limiting further missed curriculum. A rule could generate a message home for the third late session in a half term.
Others may include a thank you to a parent following a period of improvement.
Tailored Attendance Messaging
Attend holds a bank of templates for communicating and encouraging good attendance which school can adapt and add to. With each communication, Attend shares useful snippets of information based upon DFE guidance, to help reaffirm the importance of attendance.
